This is commonly called #pocketfail. From what I've seen, the argument is that women care more about appearance than practicality. Pockets are therefore reduced or eliminated to prevent bulges from distorting the line of the garment.
Well, fuck that. I don't buy pants without pockets except occasionally by accident. And then I sew on pockets. I usually put my hands in the pockets before I buy. That's because I use pockets a lot. I also buy menswear often, because hey, it has great pockets!
Honestly we should make a movement for fashionable pockets. Forget pockets "distorting" the lines being a bad thing. Make it a feature! Use the pockets to play with the clothing's outline on purpose!
