I think a raccoon would be a neat pet in like, a fanciful way. I don't actually want one. I don't even want a dog. I don't have the energy or patience to handle either. I'll stick with cats. I'm used to them, I grew up with six of the blighters, I know how to read and handle them. We have a better matching energy.

Raccoons are deciding to associate with humans. They're very smart, ambipedal, and already have hands. This makes them terrible pets. The best advice on the topic I've seen was in a book about raising an orphaned raccoon: "Begin by suspending everything you care about on strings from the ceiling."

Ahahaha, yeah.
I grew up with too many jokes about cats with hands to every really want a raccoon as a pet for serious.
Smart, motivated, dexterous...
I didn't want children in the first place. I don't need children with extra hair and sharper teeth.
