I remember learning how apparently humans have a shortcut in our brains, where numbers up to four get kind of... autocounted. There's some background process that can just look at very small numbers and "know" how many are there without doing the conscious 1... 2... 3...
I wonder if that's related to this. 4 is such a specific number to have in common like this.
